The worst thing about badly designed trundle beds is getting your fingers squashed. If this has never happened then you are either very lucky or you have limited experience with pop up trundles!
Getting you fingers squashed is easier than you think. If your trundle is does not have smooth running wheels then you will find that you really have to yank hard to get the trundle out, finally it comes out with a jolt and guess what – fingers are caught.
The pop up mechanism is an essential for any trundle. Before these became common place it meant that you could not put the trundle together with the bed to create a double. So don’t skimp on this – the pop up trundle is an absolute essential.
However, make sure that you buy from a reputable company or you may find that your pop up trundle has no proper handles and raising it up requires you to have extra hands or else it will squash your fingers.

I like this particular bed for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, it is ultimately practical. It is such a simple design that it will fit perfectly in any room. With some fun cushions and throws you can make is as much of a feature as you like.
Secondly, I have never had my fingers squashed! I think I must have been buying trundles since they were first designed. As the owner of a small bed and breakfast I find them essential. I also have to take them out and put them away regularly and often at speed with guests watching, so I can’t afford to have a design which doesn’t work!
